The Island of Silence was set up at the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino and was a structure made of pine and sound-absorbing material. The objective was to create a silent environment within a cacophonous space so as to discern the silence acquired from moving between the inside and outside of the structure. The vertical openings permitted streams of light to pass through the structure and keep visual contact with everything outside it. Constructing an area to listen to the sound of silence facilitates a form of isolation that brings to introspection.
